About you

You have experince working closely with the customers to ensure that the Company products are being utilized/installed appropriately in accordance with prescribed guidelines. Interface with the customer, and work closely with your Superior to improve sales turnover, support inventory management, identify problems (troubleshooting), and address concerns.


  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of refractory installation or steel mill or foundry experience preferred
  • Ability to learn inventory control processes and standards
  • Familiarity with heavy industrial environments and related safety standards
  • Must be comfortable in dealing with customers from all levels
  • Independent worker and self-starter, who contributes to the overall team objectives
  • Hands on, forward thinking, and improvement/results driven
  • Works effectively and collaboratively, including clear written and verbal communications
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite of products, specifically MS Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency or ability to learn the use of an ERP, MRP, or similar system for data input, output, report creation and data analysis


About the job

RHI Magnesita is seeking a Service Technician experienced in a steel mill manufacturing environment to support our customer and their continued business growth in Pittsburgh. This Service Technician position is responsible for all aspects of customer satisfaction to include refractory installation, problem solving, inventory control, and equipment maintenance. Excellent interactive skills are required, along with experience consulting with customers in an industrial setting with rigorous safety rules.


As a Service Technican, your tasks will include:

  • Assisting with inventory management functions.
  • Provide assistance and have general trouble shooting ability with machinery/equipment.
  • Daily customer interface related to product sales and performance, along with understanding customer expectations of performance.
  • Data tracking related to RHIM products, and competitor product performance.
  • Daily communication with Superior regarding all customer developments:  Threats, Potentials, Concerns. Identify and relay information to Superior pertaining to performance of products, operational changes, recommendation of changes, review of competitor products and performance, application potentials, and general audit of customer. Report on quality issues and address problems and suggest solutions.
  • Provide service type functions, which may involve product installation support, including customer product training.
  • Participate in trials and document results with respect to new and old products. Assist your Superior with the completion of all pre-trial forms, and all trial closing forms.
  • Electronic communication should be checked every business day. Calls should be returned within that business day.
  • Submit expenditures on a minimum of a bi-weekly basis. Expenditure development should be conducted with the most cost effective approach in mind.
  • Interact with required internal departments.
  • Adherence to proper safety requirements by client, and use of appropriate PPE at all customer sites.
  • Ability to respond to after hours urgent or emergency needs of the customer.
  • Ability to complete necassary equipment operations and pre-check certifications and standards.


Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand and/or be on their feet 10-12 hours per day
  • Must be able to lift 75lb as needed
  • Must be able to go up and down on ladders, steps, or other lifts as needed
  • Must be able to perform various tasks in confined spaces and elevations.
