About the job

At RHI Magnesita, we are shaping the future of the refractory industry through innovation and sustainability. We are looking for an Environmental Engineer to support and further strengthen our environmental management and compliance processes at our Middle East, Türkiye and Africa operations.

In addition, your tasks will include;

Your Tasks

  • Implement, maintain, and continuously improve the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS)
  • Coordinate internal audits and support external inspections; ensure timely closure of non-conformities
  • Manage environmental permits, licenses, and regulatory reporting processes, ensuring full compliance with local legislation
  • Actively use Ministry systems (UÇBS), including Environmental Permit & License modules, MOTAT, and mass balance reporting
  • Monitor and analyze environmental performance indicators (energy, water, emissions, wastewater, waste, VOCs) and track KPIs
  • Oversee waste management processes, including classification, storage, documentation, and contractor coordination
  • Ensure compliance in chemical management (SDS, REACH, SEVESO, hazardous materials handling)
  • Support GHG emissions monitoring and MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, Verification) processes and sustainability reporting
  • Conduct site inspections, risk assessments, and environmental impact evaluations
  • Lead environmental awareness activities and training programs
  • Manage environmental incidents and contribute to root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and contractors to ensure environmental standards in operations

What we expect from you in terms of

 Education and skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering
  • Certification as lead auditor of  ISO 14001, 45001 and 50001
  • Environmental Management Service Competency Certificate is required
  • Class D Domestic Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Operator Certificate is an asset

Languages

  • English and Turkish – Proficient/Fluent
  • Any other language will be considered an asset

Work Experience and Knowledge

  • Several years of experience in environmental management, preferably in heavy industry or manufacturing
  • Experience with ISO 14001 EMS implementation and audit processes; knowledge of ISO 50001 and ISO 45001 is an advantage
  • Solid knowledge of environmental legislation, permitting, and compliance processes (EIA, emissions, discharge, waste, reporting systems)
  • Experience with wastewater treatment, emissions monitoring, noise control, VOC/SVOC
  • Experience in GHG accounting and sustainability practices is preferred – proven ability at CO2 reduction projects
  • Valid Class B driving license and willingness to work in field conditions
