Shift Supervisor – 1st Shift

As a Shift Supervisor at RHI Magnesita, you will play a critical leadership role overseeing production, shipping, and maintenance activities during 1st shift. In this role, you will ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality manufacturing while coordinating preventive maintenance and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Your impact will extend across production performance, labor supervision, maintenance planning, safety, and operational excellence.
What You’ll Do
Production Oversight
- Lead and supervise production crews to meet daily manufacturing targets
- Monitor press efficiencies, inventory levels, die changes, and quality metrics
- Conduct daily safety talks and enforce all safety protocols
- Assist in troubleshooting process, equipment, and production issues
- Ensure compliance with RHI Magnesita’s quality and production standards
- Coordinate with packaging, shipping, raw materials, and QA teams
Maintenance Leadership
- Supervise maintenance personnel and activities during the shift
- Implement and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs
- Monitor equipment performance and initiate repairs or improvements
- Ensure maintenance staff are properly trained and compliant with safety standards
- Support capital improvement projects and engineering initiatives
Continuous Improvement & Compliance
- Drive Lean Manufacturing and RMS (RHI Magnesita Management System) practices
- Recommend workflow, process, and equipment improvements
- Maintain compliance with environmental, health, and safety requirements
- Uphold the Collective Bargaining Agreement and foster strong labor relations
Administrative & Reporting
- Track and report shift production, downtime, maintenance, and safety metrics
- Conduct coaching, employee reviews, and disciplinary actions when needed
- Communicate effectively with the Plant Manager, Production Manager, and cross‑functional teams

Preferred Technical Experience
- Refractory or refractory‑adjacent manufacturing experience (strong plus)
- Comfortable using hand tools, drills, presses, mixers, bowls, and other industrial equipment
- Forklift experience or certification
- Ability to thrive in high‑temperature, dusty industrial environments
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field
- Equivalent experience accepted in place of degree
- Minimum 5+ years of manufacturing supervisory experience
- Union experience is required
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
- Experience with preventive maintenance systems and production planning
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; QAD experience a plus
- Ability to work overtime and flexible hours as needed
Work Environment
- Exposure to noise, dust, heat, and heavy industrial equipment
- Must be able to climb ladders and work at heights up to 40 feet
- Must be able to lift/move up to 75 lbs
