Health, Safety, and Environmental Excellence Leader

 

Position Summary: Join our team as a Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Excellence Leader, where you will implement our HSE function in alignment with global and regional policies to meet business requirements. As part of a multifunctional team, you will partner with all areas of our organization to develop effective and progressive safety solutions, driving a culture of safety excellence and performance improvement with sustainable change. This role is fully onsite, with half of your time spent in Saybrook, OH, and the other half in Huron, OH.

 

Core Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Champion safe behaviors, manufacturing processes, and safety improvements, working directly with the management team to drive hazard awareness and injury prevention.
  • Review, implement, and provide overall guidance for company-wide safety programs, including behavior-based safety programs, non-routine task evaluations, risk assessments, new ISO safety and environmental standards, and general corporate safety policies.
  • Provide proactive insight and guidance when reviewing engineering controls and design changes to minimize safety and occupational hazards (e.g., machine guarding, ergonomics, traffic, fire/explosion, noise, upset conditions).
  • Conduct post-accident investigations to determine root causes and develop effective and timely action plans.
  • Lead, mentor, empower, and guide local teams to develop standard safe work practices, follow up on safety incidents, near misses, and employee safety improvement suggestions, and develop innovative solutions for complex safety challenges.
  • Complete inspection, monitoring, measurement, analytical testing, and recordkeeping requirements for environmental permits, including air, stormwater, process wastewater, and hazardous waste.
  • Lead the team to prepare and ensure timely submission of environmental reports to government agencies.
  • Ensure all regulatory and internal environmental reporting and documentation requirements are satisfied while maintaining responsibility for analyzing and investigating all environmental incidents.
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership for environmental issues surrounding the Saybrook and Huron Campus.
  • Respond promptly to internal and external customers, clearly communicating with team members through face-to-face meetings, phone, email, and other written correspondence.
  • Lead the team to interact with HSE regulatory authorities (OSHA, EPA) during inspections and new regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with global and regional resources to utilize outside expertise and pilot new programs.
  • Develop forward-thinking ideas by partnering with site leadership to create new insightful solutions to daily issues and mitigate risk.

 

Qualifications:

 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health & Safety, related Engineering, or Science field
  • 5-8 years of HSE experience with progressing responsibilities.
  • Ability to engage and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interface seamlessly with all levels of management.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and online software platforms, with the ability to use spreadsheets and data analysis applications.
  • Self-starter, motivated team player, with the ability to bring alternate points of view to discussions and analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and effectively organize responsibilities. Strong project management and leadership skills, with a self-motivating skillset that drives results both autonomously and in a team environment.

 

Preferred:

  • Minimum of 3 years in leading, coaching, and mentoring a team.
  • Training in ISO 14001, 45001, and 50001.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP). If not currently certified, the candidate must be willing to obtain the CSP certification with company support.
