Mechanical Design Engineer - Industrial Systems

Role Overview

RHI Magnesita is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Flow Control Engineering team. This position plays a critical role in designing, improving, and supporting mechanical systems used in demanding steel manufacturing environments. Working closely with customers, sales teams, field service professionals, and engineering colleagues, you will help deliver innovative equipment solutions that improve operational performance, safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction.

What You'll Do

• Develop mechanical designs, proposal drawings, and installation concepts for Flow Control and Slide Gate systems.
• Design, modify, and improve mechanical equipment, including drives, support structures, and related system components.
• Create detailed engineering documentation, drawings, and equipment specifications for customer projects.
• Support the successful execution of trials, conversions, equipment upgrades, and new installations.
• Coordinate engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle to help ensure projects are completed on time and meet customer requirements.
• Evaluate customer processes and operational needs to recommend the most effective engineering solutions.
• Troubleshoot equipment and process issues, identify root causes, and implement practical corrective actions.
• Collaborate with Sales, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, Field Service, and R&D teams to support product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide technical expertise and support to customers and internal teams regarding product applications, system performance, and equipment functionality.
• Participate in the development of new technologies, products, and engineering improvements that enhance customer outcomes and business growth.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

• 1+ years of engineering, mechanical design, project engineering, or related technical experience.
• Associate's degree, Technical Diploma, or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, and engineering fundamentals.
• Experience using 3D CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar design platforms.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and develop effective solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a collaborative environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience supporting industrial equipment, manufacturing operations, metals, steel, heavy industry, or capital equipment environments.
• Experience working directly with customers on technical solutions.
• Familiarity with project coordination, product development, or engineering change management processes.
• Additional language capabilities are a plus.
