Materials Coordinator – CMC Steel
Position Summary
The Materials Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, organizing and managing refractory materials required to support CMC Steel’s day‑to‑day operations. This role serves as the primary link between CMC Steel, internal operations, logistics, and inventory management, ensuring materials are available, accurate, and delivered on time to support production and maintenance activities.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced steel mill environment, with a strong focus on customer service, safety, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Materials Planning & Inventory Management
- Unload and put away daily truck shipments
- Coordinate and manage refractory material inventory dedicated to CMC Steel
- Monitor stock levels, usage rates, and forecasts to prevent shortages or overstock
- Generate and track purchase requisitions, transfers, and replenishment orders
- Maintain accurate inventory records in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, S4)
- Perform cycle counts and reconcile discrepancies
Customer & Site Coordination
- Act as the primary materials contact for CMC Steel operations and maintenance teams
- Coordinate material availability for planned outages, campaigns, and emergency repairs
- Communicate material status, delivery timelines, and constraints clearly to the customer
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on material flow and reliability
Logistics & Receiving
- Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments of refractory materials
- Unload trucks at both customer locations and properly organize materials
- Work closely with logistics providers, warehouses, and internal shipping teams
- Ensure proper receiving, inspection, labeling, and storage of materials at site
- Resolve delivery issues, shortages, or damaged material quickly
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all materials handling activities comply with safety policies and site requirements
- Support proper storage and handling of refractory materials and consumables
- Assist with documentation related to quality, traceability, and compliance
- Participate in safety meetings and site audits as required
Communication & Reporting
- Provide regular updates to internal teams on inventory levels, risks, and usage trends
- Escalate potential material risks proactively before they impact operations
- Maintain clear documentation and records related to materials and inventory
- Support coordination between Sales, Operations, Supply Chain, and Site Services
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years of experience in materials coordination, inventory management, or supply chain
- Experience in steel, refractory, manufacturing, or industrial environments strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of ERP systems (SAP preferred)
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work independently at a customer site
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with refractory materials, consumables, or industrial raw materials
- Experience working in on‑site customer‑dedicated roles
