Technical Services Specialist - Flow Control

About the Role

We are seeking a Technical Services Specialist - Flow Control to support customers across the North American steel industry. In this highly visible, customer-facing role, you will serve as a technical expert for flow control equipment, helping customers optimize performance, improve operational reliability, and successfully implement new installations. 

You will work closely with customers, engineering, sales, product management, and operations teams to provide technical support, lead commissioning activities, troubleshoot equipment challenges, and deliver training that ensures safe and effective equipment operation. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on professional who enjoys solving complex technical problems and building strong customer relationships. 

 

What You'll Do

 

Customer Support & Technical Service

  • Serve as the primary technical resource for customer equipment and operational issues. 
  • Troubleshoot flow control equipment and identify root causes of performance challenges.
  • Conduct on-site assessments and periodic customer visits to evaluate equipment condition and operating practices. 
  • Develop recommendations that improve equipment performance, reliability, and safety. 
  • Review customer storage practices for refractory materials and spare parts to ensure proper handling and preservation.

 

Commissioning & Project Support

  • Support installation, startup, and commissioning of flow control systems and related equipment. 
  • Partner with Sales and Engineering teams to plan and execute customer trials and project implementations. 
  • Monitor new equipment installations to ensure successful startup and operational readiness. 
  • Coordinate technical support activities and provide guidance during key project milestones.

 

Training & Customer Engagement

  • Deliver technical training to customer personnel on equipment operation, maintenance, and safety procedures. 
  • Build strong customer relationships through proactive communication and technical consultation. 
  • Help customers maximize the value, performance, and longevity of installed equipment. 

 

Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with Engineering, R&D, Quality, and Product Management teams to improve existing products and support new product development initiatives.
  • Provide field feedback and customer insights that contribute to equipment innovation and performance enhancements. 
  • Mentor and support less experienced technical service personnel as needed. 

 

Qualifications

 

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent with technical training in mechanical maintenance or a related field. 
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Ability to travel extensively to customer locations throughout North America.
  • Ability to work safely in industrial manufacturing environments.

 

Preferred

  • Experience supporting industrial equipment within steel manufacturing, metals, refractory, or other heavy industrial environments. 
  • Experience with commissioning, field service, maintenance, or technical support activities. 
  • Knowledge of steel mill operations and production processes. 
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, quality, operations, and commercial teams.

 

Travel

This position requires frequent travel to customer sites across North America to support installations, commissioning activities, equipment evaluations, training, and ongoing technical service needs.
