Central Stores Materials Technician
JOB TITLE: Materials Technician – Central Stores
LOCATION: York, PA
SUMMARY:
This role maintains safe and compliant material handling while overseeing the accuracy and organization of the caged storage area within Central Stores. Key responsibilities include managing inventory integrity through verification, cycle counts, SAP transactions, and MRP‑driven replenishment. The position supports daily operations by picking MRO and spare‑part orders, restocking materials, and ensuring orderly storage areas. It also contributes to 6S and Lean initiatives, works collaboratively with cross‑functional teams, and provides back‑up support to Central Stores to maintain consistent operational coverage.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure compliance with all safety, PPE, and handling procedures for stored materials.
• Monitor and maintain oversight of the caged storage area within Central Stores.
• Ensure inventory quantity and location accuracy through routine verification and system updates.
• Manage ordering of caged area materials through MRP, ensuring timely replenishment and stock availability.
• Pick MRO and spare part orders for work orders, cost centers, and departmental deliveries.
• Perform ABC cycle counts for MRO and spare parts and participate in annual physical inventory counts.
• Oversee restocking of Central Stores shelving and bins with daily deliveries.
• Print, apply, and verify inventory tickets in accordance with established procedures.
• Enter delivery receipts and material movements into SAP with a high level of accuracy.
• Prepare the caged storage area for current and future inbound materials, ensuring proper space planning.
• Maintain clean and organized storage areas in alignment with safety and housekeeping standards.
• Support and contribute to 6S and Lean improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency and reducing waste.
• Serve as a back-up to Central Stores team members to ensure continuous department coverage.
• Collaborate effectively with Maintenance, Production, Logistics, and other internal departments to meet operational needs.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support overall department objectives.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Must have the ability and desire to be successfully cross trained in all positions throughout the department.
• Self-motivated, self-starter, self-directed and takes ownership.
• Will be expected to accept accountability, be accurate, communicate effectively, and have a positive attitude.
• Job requires standing, lifting, walking, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and climbing; climbing ladders or stairs several times per shift; lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds; and wearing all personal protective equipment required to do the job.
• Will need to have excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task and stay on top of the needs of various departments throughout the campus.
• Must have excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
• Will be responsible for accurate information and documentation for inventory control.
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel and SAP
