Production Operations

SUMMARY:

The Specialties Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of production machinery and equipment within the Specialties Plant. The Specialties Plant Operator monitors production processes, performs quality checks, and helps to ensure that production schedules are met.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote a culture of safety within the Unshaped Department by setting a positive example and fostering environments where safe practices are a priority.
  • Follow all safety procedures and lockouts as required.
  • Visually inspect all products to ensure quality guideline adherence.
  • Report any defects to a Quality Control Technician and/or Supervisor.
  • Progress ideas to reduce scrap and improve the efficiency of the process.
  • Safely operate all Specialties Plant equipment according to applicable JSA’s and work instructions. 
  • Work in a variety of jobs as determined by production demands including mixing, operating the bag or slab line, super sacker station, and loading trucks and rail cars.
  • Handle transactions in SAP and production reporting.
  • Perform equipment checks daily for safe operation and report equipment problems to Maintenance and/or Supervisor.
  • Reduce machine downtime by performing minor repairs.    
  • Safely maintain a consistent rate of production.
  • Perform daily and weekly cleanups, including PMs, check all fluid levels, look for and report any possible problems while ensuring equipment is kept neat and clean.  
  • Inspect and operate forklifts as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be safe, quality oriented, and a self-motivated team player.  
  • Ability to use experience to exercise independent judgment and make decisions on quality.  
  • Must have the ability and desire to be successfully cross trained in all positions throughout the department.  
  • Must be willing to accept accountability, work toward continual improvement, and have a positive attitude.

PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:

  • Physical demands include but are not limited to standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, climbing, working at heights, and lifting – 50 pounds maximum.
  • Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment (including hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, and gloves).
