2nd shift Schedule: 3p-11p w/ rotating weekends

 

SUMMARY:

The Press Operator is responsible for safely operating heavy tonnage hydraulic presses and robotic systems that support the refractory brick manufacturing process. Press Operators set up, operate, adjust, and troubleshoot different types of equipment, including hydraulics, robotic equipment, die/mold in changes, and follow press set up instructions carefully and accurately in addition to performing scheduled preventative maintenance on the presses and robotic systems as instructed.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote a culture of safety within the department by setting a positive example and fostering environments where safe practices are a priority.
  • Set up, operate, adjust, and troubleshoot different types of equipment, including hydraulics, robotic equipment (in excess of 1500 ton adjustments), die/mold in changes, follow press set up instructions carefully and accurately, and perform scheduled preventative maintenance on the presses and robotic systems.
  • Safely maintain a consistent rate of production and follow all applicable work instructions.
  • Operate counterbalance sit down forklifts in tight spaces with many obstacles.
  • Follow charts, schedules, data sheets and instructions carefully and accurately for production orders, product specifications, maintenance, system checks, quality guidelines, and enter data into the electronic production management system.
  • Inspect brick to ensure they meet the scrap guidelines and report any defects to a Quality Control Technician and/or Supervisor.
  • Perform equipment inspections and report equipment problems to Maintenance and/or Supervisor.
  • Utilize the QMS system and perform accurate measurement checks of bricks to ensure they meet specifications.
  • Record all brick measurements in the SPC database.
  • Check size wheel for proper operation as required on the resin side and record checks.
  • Ensure correct number of bricks are placed on car or racks.
  • Accurately record data, delay time, car/rack numbers, completion times, piece counts, scrap and brick weights.
  • Report any near miss, damage, injury or safety concerns immediately utilizing the safety tracking system.
  • Safely work with a wide variety of hand tools.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong mechanical abilities as well as strong analytical aptitude.
  • Possess basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to safely and efficiently operate forklifts.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on machines and work area as required.
  • Ensure accuracy of paperwork, data entries, shift data, computerized work time entry, SPC, etc.
  • Ability to manage time effectively in order to maintain a consistent work schedule.
  • Positive attitude, motivated, and able to work with limited supervision.
  • Willing to continually improve upon personal/professional skills and process improvements within the department.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to rationalize priorities according to production needs.

PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:

  • Physical demands include but are not limited to standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, climbing, and lifting – 75 pounds maximum.
